3 Tips To Create A Sign That Attracts More Customers

Posted on: 1 June 2016

A sign is only viewed for a brief time by potential customers, so it is important that it quickly snags their attention and conveys your message. Choosing what goes on a sign can be more challenging than you might believe. It is possible though. Here are some tips to help you get the most possible out of your signs.

Choose a Bold Design

Before thinking of what to put on your sign, you need to think of what colors and fonts to use. If your sign is bland, it will blend in with its surroundings. Potential customers will never get to your actual message because they will overlook your sign. However, a sign that is brightly colored is hard to ignore.

The font can also help sell your message. A large format print sign is difficult to ignore. You might have to experiment to find the right balance between your font and color to find the one that works in all situations, including bad weather days.

Forget Obvious Services and Products

Chances are, your competitors are going to have obvious services and products featured on their signs. It might seem like a good idea, but it is actually a waste of space. For instance, if you have a landscaping business, potential customers naturally expect you to mow yards, so there is no need to state it or put a picture of a mower on your sign.

To help your sign standout from the competition, look for services or products that you offer that are different than those provided by competitors. Create a list of the services and products that your business offers and narrow it down to a few that you can include on your sign.

Include a Call to Action

Now that you have the attention of potential customers, you need to put forth a call to action. Without a call to action, your sign could look like nothing more than a list of services and products.

A call to action does not have to be long and windy; keep it short and simple. For instance, you can use, "Call us now." Even the use of the phrase, "limited time offer" will draw in customers.

When designing your sign, work with a company like Signarama that has experience in creating high quality signs. A good designer can help you with styling your sign and give you additional tips on what does and does not work when trying to attract customers.

Luxury Signs and Beyond

Hello! Welcome to my website. My name is Aaron and I am a custom signmaker in Montana. I create high-end signs for unique and luxurious businesses, like spas, 4-star restaurants, and all kinds of lodges. A sign is the first thing customers see before they walk into a business. It has to convey a lot of information in a short amount of time, including the attitude, industry, and quality of the business. Most of my signs are made out of natural materials like carved wood or metal and stone. It's really fun for me to translate a business' aesthetic into a sign.
